2007 Nearing its end

During this year we have launched the Plan the Future project, which has unfortunately suffered heavily from my lack of time for updates. That is why you weren't able to see more content and were just casualy awarded with news about some more important events. I hope this will change in the forthcoming year, since I'm already planning a new project and a complete redesign of this website. The changes are expected to be seen in about six months, depending on my time and funds. Till then I wish you a happy and joyful New Year!

Changes under way

Written by: admin on September 26, 2008

Well, it took me long enough to realize that I didn't have enough time to make this project work. And since I do have some time now on my disposal, I decided to transform this website into something different! It won't be a news resource anymore, but it'll become a more personal website, focusing more on my interests, that have always been very inclined towards everything that might define our future.

The platform for this project has already been chosen and the redesign is in the works, so you can expect some changes soon. I'll try my best to keep the project as active as possible.

Donations for a friend

Written by: admin on August 16, 2008

A friend of one of Talkhost's administrators has been diagnosed with blood cancer. This is the related post:

I know this has nothing to do with this site or its members...but... I've a friend with blood cancer and the docs aren't giving him any good news... he's selling all his sites online and is prepairing for the worst...this weekend he's taking his wife on a trip to give her the bad news... I was wondering if anyone would like to or be able to donate a bit of money that I could then send to him and his family? even if it's only $1 or $0.50.....he doesn't know that I'm trying to do this, so hopefully it'll bring a smile to his face again...and less worry for him.

If you'd like to help, feel free to donate through the widget below.

It's Firefox download day!

Written by: admin on June 17, 2008

Today was released the third generation of Firefox, the fastest spreading browser on the net. What makes this day special for the Mozilla team is not only a completely new generation of their popular browser, full of new features and and security improvements, but because of the world record that it made. That's right, Firefox is making today the Guinness world record for most downloads in 24 hours. At least 1,7 million people have already pledged to download it today, and I'm sure the goal has already been achieved, if not even surpassed.

QR code

Written by: admin on April 24, 2008

QR code or Quick Response code is a matrix, two dimensional code that is known for its ability to store large quantities of data and the ability to keep the high reading speed at the same time. This code was created in 1994, by a Japanese company Denso-Wave and has only recently started to rapidly expand on the international market. This happened because the conventional BARcode codes are not able to carry all the product data anymore. Unlike the barcode, the QR code is able to contain a few thousand times more data, up to 7,089 numeric or 4,296 alphanumerc characters. Therefore, many applications for portable devices have been developed, that allow the user of a (for example) cellphone equipped with a camera, to simply take a photo of the code on a product in a store and instantly view its contents.

You can try its features firsthand, by installing one of the following free QR code decoding software for mobile phones:

We have also generated a QR code containing our URL, using the Kaywa QR code generator.

sQuba - a real submarine car

Written by: admin on April 04, 2008

sQuba is the world's first car that is able to travel both on earth and underwater. It was developed by a Swiss automobile manufacturer Rinspeed, based on the famous James Bond's car from his movie The spy who loved me.

The car is powered by three electric motors and utilizes rechargable litium-ion batteries, that allow up to 120 km/h land speed, 6 km/h speed on the water surface and about 3 km/h underwater. To submerge, the driver has to flood the interior of the car, which than allows the vehicle to dive to a depth of approximately 10 metres. The car is provided with two scuba-style rebreathers, that enable its passengers to breathe underwater. Because of its open cockpit design, the occupants can easily escape from the vehicle in case of an emergency.
